The Metropolitan Museum of Art has officially announced that its Spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition and the next Met Gala will celebrate the work of legendary fashion designer John Galliano.
Titled “John Galliano: Horizons,” the exhibition will open on May 9, 2027, following the annual Met Gala on May 3. The showcase will trace Galliano’s remarkable four-decade career, featuring iconic runway looks, sketches, archival materials, and an in-depth look at the creative process behind some of fashion’s most memorable collections.
Galliano becomes only the third living designer to receive a solo exhibition from the Costume Institute, joining the ranks of Yves Saint Laurent and Rei Kawakubo. The exhibition will highlight his work at his fashion house, Givenchy, Dior, and Maison Margiela.
The announcement has also renewed conversations surrounding Galliano’s controversial past. In 2011, the designer was dismissed from Dior after making antisemitic remarks, leading to a conviction in France. The exhibition will address this chapter of his life while also exploring his return to the fashion industry and ongoing legacy. According to the museum, the exhibition was developed in consultation with Jewish leaders to present a balanced and historically accurate perspective.
