Olivier Rousteing Named Creative Director of Rabanne

Olivier Rousteing has been appointed Creative Director of Rabanne, marking a new chapter for one of fashion’s most recognizable houses. The designer succeeds Julien Dossena, who departed the brand in June after more than a decade leading Rabanne’s creative direction.

Known for his vision, love of glamour, and ability to connect fashion with popular culture, Rousteing brings more than a decade of experience at the forefront of luxury fashion. He will unveil his first collection for Rabanne during Paris Fashion Week in March 2027.

Born in Bordeaux, France, Rousteing developed a passion for fashion at a young age before studying at the Institut Supérieur de l’Art Appliqué in Paris. He began his career at Roberto Cavalli, where he worked as a designer before joining Balmain in 2009 as head of the women’s ready-to-wear studio.

In 2011, at just 25 years old, Rousteing was appointed Creative Director of Balmain, becoming one of the youngest designers to lead a major Parisian fashion house. During his 14-year tenure, he transformed Balmain into a global cultural force, blending the house’s historic French elegance with a modern, celebrity-driven approach.

Under his leadership, Balmain became known for its powerful silhouettes, embellished designs, and glamorous aesthetic. Rousteing also built strong relationships with some of the world’s biggest stars, dressing celebrities including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and Kim Kardashian. His work helped bring the brand closer to a new generation of fashion lovers through collaborations, social media, and pop culture moments.

Beyond fashion, Rousteing has shared his personal journey, including growing up adopted and his recovery after a 2020 home accident. His openness has made him one of the industry’s most recognized designers.

Now at Rabanne, Rousteing takes on a house with a history of challenging traditional ideas of fashion. Founded by Spanish designer Paco Rabanne in 1966, the brand became famous for its futuristic designs, metallic creations, and unconventional approach to luxury.

“Joining Rabanne is a tremendous honor,” Rousteing said in a statement. “This is a house that has always challenged convention, transforming bold ideas into creations that have shaped fashion history.”

With his experience at Balmain and his ability to merge fashion, celebrity, and culture, Rousteing’s arrival at Rabanne signals a new era for the iconic French house.
