Today, we’re chatting with music producer and graphic designer Samir. We discuss the challenges producers face navigating the music industry, how technology changed the way music is consumed, his love of rock music, discovering international bands and more. Samir explains the importance of producers being exposed to a wide variety of genres. This enables us to learn history and geographical things through music and understanding how they came to be. We explore electronic sounds and it’s influenced In the UK, specifically with raves. Samir dives into house music too and how it liberated marginalized groups that were unfairly persecuted in the states. Samir opens up about MF doom and how he inspired people to be open, expressive and push boundaries within the rap genre. Samir believes that rappers can speak truth into power and it’s important that the messages spread are ones with good intentions.
